people in this world can be nice

Today I met a man who is beyond nice; words can’t describe how nice he is. We are working on a video in partnership with Macys and we have a 2-day shoot, to avoid any issues I had ordered catering for both days from 2 different restaurants. Today we had salads and sandwiches from Au Bon Pain, they cam around 11:45 dropped off the food but no one from my team was around to check it, when we finally got to lunch at 1:30pm (shoots run late all the time) a wave of people went down to eat, myself I stayed up on the set to get the next shot ready.

I go down closer to 2pm and hear that there weren’t any salad dressings, my first thought is why did no one call the restaurant, so I call a number that  I thought was for Au Bon Pain, someone picks up and I proceed to tell them that we had ordered catering from them and we never got dressing for the salads, after a long tiresome day + being hungry = a moody Roxy. I also did not have great reception so I seemed to be repeating myself many times over, I kept saying we ordered lunch from your restaurant we didn’t get dressing, he kept saying he did not have an order for our location that it must have been one of the other franchises, I insisted that I had called the 800 number in the website and that I needed dressing, I was raising my voice and well, I was being total bitch! He, on the other hand was being so nice and calm, in the end I said fine I would call the catering number, frustrated I hung up. notice not one did either one of us name the restaurant in this conversation.

I didn’t get reception and I was starving, so I decided to eat a sandwich and get my intern to go to the restaurant in person and ask for dressing. About 10 min later I heat “did someone order dressing” I said that yes I had called for some, the gentleman came towards me and said “hi, I think I was on the phone with you earlier” he continued to say “I think you called the wrong number, we never did an order today for this address but here I brought you some dressing for you salad” so I ask him which restaurant was he from, and he said he was Qdoba and I just felt like the biggest idiot!

As I mentioned earlier, I have a 2 day shoot and I had ordered lunch for both days, one was Au Bon Pain and the other was, well no other then Qdoba, who is doing a taco bar for us, the gentleman I had yelled at on the phone and basically called incompetent for not bringing us salad dressing, was there in front of me offering HIS apologies and giving me dressing for a salad he never delivered! I mean what an idiot am I! I felt like the biggest fool and he didn’t have to be so nice to me, he didn’t have to bring me salad dressing, but he did, he chose to be the bigger person and go way, way, way above and beyond. In the moment I realized that I had called the wrong restaurant, I told him that I had made a mistake because I have both the numbers from from au bon pain and qdoba in my phone and both started with the same area code, I did not save them with names, hence my mistake.

So I want to say a HUGE, GIANT THANK YOU to Walter from Qdoba in the short hills mall, because he is by far the nicest person I know. If you are ever there please let him know he is appreciated and buy lots of food!
